Keeping an eye on things!

Middle school have been studying light. Mrs MacKinnon very kindly offered to come in to talk about how the eye works. She showed an eye dissection and then pupils had a shot. She also brought in some glasses from the RNIB to help us understand what a visual impairment felt like. She also brought some freebies - the class really liked the cool specs!

The Lighthouse trip

Middle school pupils took a trip to 'The Lighthouse' gallery and centre for architecture in Glasgow on Tuesday. It was a very interesting trip and everyone enjoyed it.

Pupils were given a guided tour, took part in a treasure hunt, tried building structures out of jelly babies and spaghetti, took part in a range of discussions and gave feedback to the class. Here are some photos of the day:

Architecture!

We have been studying architectural styles as part of our cities topic in middle school. Today, Mr Speirs gave an overview presentation of the different styles and their characteristics. Pupils then had to 'vote with their feet' to identify the style of a range of unseen buildings and justify their choice.

After that pupils worked in pairs to piece together and identify some building jigsaws:

Banksy

On Monday in middle school pupils were discussing Banksy's work, what actually constitutes art, and how ideas are communicated through the visual image. It was a super discussion with some very insightful comments.

Ma Ville Idèale...

Pupils were looking at the topic of cities in French today. They were imagining what their ideal city would be like and what amenities it would have. They then created a moodboard with the appropriate text and images. Here is an example by Brett - a city with zero gravity!

Ellie painted this Danbo using ArtRage for her homework:

Superstitions and curses!

It's all drama this afternoon in middle school as we find out some of the reasons people believed they caught the plague. We've rapped our rap from last week to recap symptoms and causes. Now the groups are presenting their short sketches which must include two types of plague, three reasons they caught it and four different characters involved in fighting or dealing with the plague. Lots if fun learning this afternoon!!
