Being a gene...

In order to try to understand some of the different parts of a cell and basics of genetics, middle school became a cell...

Each child was an individual gene. They each took some scrabble letters to represent the bases on their gene. Then they linked up in chains of genes to form chromosomes. We then went into the GP room which became our cell, with the GP room walls being the cell membrane. A circle of stools in the middle of the 'cell' became the nucleus and our model was complete when all our chains of 'chromosomes' curled up and squashed inside the nucleus.
