Community, crime and punishment

As middle school are ending their investigation of 17th C Edinburgh they spent time learning about crime and punishment in the past. We've looked at Burke and Hare, torture, punishments for withcraft and other gory details of Scotland's past.




This led in to group discussion about communities- who should decide on guilt? Who decides punishment? What is a fair punishment? Is there such a thing? What is the point of punishment?
