Get real!

Middle school are working on their digital literacy skills.

Their first task this afternoon was to find answers to very specific questions asked by Miss Rukin. They shared good search techniques- and then the competition began! The class had to race to be the first to shout the answer to questions they could answer using the Internet. After a series of questions, we had a tie between Aimee and Jack.

Here's the tie break between Aimee and Jack...

Jack won!

Next, the class worked on designing posters to show the method they use to test the usefulness and accuracy of a website. We call this the 'get real' method...
R- read the URL
E- examine the sites content
A- ask about the author, check you can use their material, and that they are a reliable source
L- look at any links provided.

For homework, middle school will be putting these skills to good use, as they research the national DNA database.
