Why? Who said? What if?

Middle school are debating big questions this afternoon as they dive into the world of genetics and ethics. They are learning about Huntinton's disease, and the impact if genetic testing on families.

They are debating in groups questions such as- should a grandaughter be allowed to be tested if her mother doesn't want to be tested? What will the consequences be for the mother if her daughter tests positive? What role should government, doctors, counsellors have in the process of genetic testing? Whose rights are most important? Where is the line between rights and responsibilities?

In addition- the class are learning good debating skills! It's been a successful and interesting afternoon!
